The appraisal process is needed when you hired a contractor, and the adjuster and contractor can not agree on the scope and price, you may hire an appraiser to help settle the dispute, the insurance company will then hire an appraiser, You pay for your appraisal and half the umpires fees.
Together the three will review the scope of loss and come to an agreement. If the 2 appraisers disagree, the umpire will have the final say.
